Luton manager savours 'memorable win' following victory over Norwich

Luton became the first non-league team since 1989 to beat top-flight opposition in the FA Cup

Luton manager Paul Buckle savoured a “magnificent” day after his side became the first non-league team since 1989 to beat top-flight opposition in the FA Cup.

Scott Rendell's 80th-minute goal was enough to defeat Norwich at Carrow Road and put the Hatters into the fifth-round draw.

It was a snapshot of how things used to be for Luton before they were struck by financial problems, and Buckle told the club website afterwards: "It's an amazing day, magnificent.

"We needed to stop a Premier League team from scoring and we've done that. I thought it was a great game to watch and we played our part.

"Midway through the second half, I think the supporters could sense that we could do something - and we have. It's a wonderful day for this football club."

Contrasting emotions were on show from QPR manager Harry Redknapp, who made no attempt to hide his fury after the Barclays Premier League strugglers' 4-2 capitulation against npower League One side MK Dons.

Armand Traore's fourth-minute own goal and Ryan Lowe's 40th-minute effort had the visitors in control at half-time. Ryan Harley (50) and Darren Potter (56) made it 4-0 before Jay Bothroyd and Fabio pulled two goals back inside the last seven minutes for much-changed QPR.

Redknapp warned of changes to his squad, telling qpr.co.uk: "A lot of the players have been knocking on my door telling me that they should be in the team. I gave them the chance and this is the problem - we're not strong enough.

"The players had the opportunity to show me that they should be in the team and I'm afraid not too many of them proved they should be. That's why I've been all over Europe over the past two weeks, trying to find players to strengthen the squad."

Manchester City assistant manager hailed unsung hero Pablo Zabaleta after the full-back's late goal saw off Stoke 1-0.

Platt said: "(Zabaleta) is an eight out of 10 man every week. For professionals he is just a top man really."

Neighbours Manchester United convincingly beat Fulham 4-1 with the help of two goals from Javier Hernandez, a feat emulated by Arsenal Olivier Giroud in the 3-2 win over Brighton - the Frenchman's second double of the week.

Johnny Heitinga's 90th-minute goal gave Everton a 2-1 success at Bolton after Steven Pienaar's scrappy opener was cancelled out by Marvin Sordell.

Reading eased into the last 16 with a 4-0 win over Sheffield United while Jordi Gomez's early penalty ensured Wigan did not go the way of Norwich against Blue Square Premier Macclesfield.

Lukas Jutkiewicz's double edged Championship Middlesbrough past League Two Aldershot 2-1, with all the goals coming in the final seven minutes.

Blackburn were convincing 3-0 winners at Derby while Chris Dagnall's goal decided another all-Championship clash in Barnsley's favour at Hull.

Chris Wood's goal denied Huddersfield caretaker manager Mark Lillis a winning start after replacing the sacked Simon Grayson. Town had led through Lee Novak's penalty.
