Introduction to Shopping Centre Investment - 3-Day Course

This three-day course from Bayfield Training looks into the process of creating of a new shopping centre. There is so much more to be thought about than meets the eye. First and foremost is the building which has to be in a precise location, and the design which is interchangeable enough to meet all of the various products in the rapidly changing retail environment. This course will investigate different build designs and use financial models in Excel to analyse and why an existing mall works (or doesn't).

Understanding the huge number of variables which are involved in the process is key to the perfect mall - existing supply and demand, understanding local consumer and catchment trends. The course will look at the issues and limitations involved when bringing shopping centres together into a securitised structure. Industry experts will provide key knowledge about the features and needs of modern shopping centres which will enable success in the Retail Real Estate industry.

On this course you will:

  • Learn the history and economics of shopping centres – locally and internationally – and how to broadly identify new markets
  • Identify the features and needs of different shopping centres using international case studies
  • Use GIS, Catchment Analysis Software, Excel and other tools to position and adapt to markets
  • Learn about ‘effective’ and ‘optimised’ shopping centre designs
  • Learn about retailers, product mix and lease strategies
  • Analyse a detailed financial model of an existing centre with fully flexible rent functions
  • Incorporate shopping centre management, sustainability features and asset enhancement opportunities
  • Appreciate the difference between direct and indirect shopping centre investments
  • Compete with your peers to create the most sustainable and investable shopping centre in our simulation game “The Perfect Mall”
