This qualification provides the perfect platform to further develop your L&D career and gain the knowledge needed to work towards professional membership of the CIPD. It will help you develop your ability to evaluate different L&D models and practices and increase your understanding of external factors which impact upon L&D interventions within organisations. You'll also develop your planning, analytical and problem-solving skills as an integral part of enhancing your L&D specialist skills.

Suitability - Who should attend?

This qualification is suitable for you if you're currently working in the field of L&D management and wish to extend your knowledge and skills in order to develop your career. You may be seeking to gain credibility and recognition by working towards a professional level of membership. The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing organisational L&D policies and strategies and will be interested in the impact of the wider organisational and environmental context on L&D.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

On successful completion of the programme, you’ll be awarded the CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Development. The qualification is accredited by the CIPD, subject to approval, and is equivalent to QCF Level 5.

Successful completion of this certificate leads to Associate membership of the CIPD. Associate membership is the first level of professional membership of the CIPD, and allows you to use the designation Assoc CIPD after your name to showcase your credentials. It’s an achievement that makes you stand out in your career and is respected and valued by employers. It also emphasises your commitment to continuing professional development and a desire to stay current.

  • be able to contribute to the development and provision of coaching and mentoring capability within organisations and support the development of organisational talent
  • understand how to take a value added approach to evaluating the L&D function, evaluate L&D's contribution to sustained organisation performance, learn the relationship between organisational performance, effective L&D management and successful change management
  • be able to explain the role of ethics and professionalism in L&D
  • understand the concept of high performance working (HPW), its complexity, conceptual frameworks, contribution to sustainable organisation performance, the business case for it, the contribution of communities of practice, and the contribution of the performance management process to HPW
  • understand the role of line managers in the performance management process.

Content of the qualification

The qualification is programme is made up of seven face-to-face workshops:

  • Developing Professional Practice (1 day)
  • Business Issues and the Context of L&D (2 days)
  • Using Information in L&D (1 day)
  • Meeting Organisational Development Needs (1 day)
  • Developing Coaching and Mentoring within Organisations (1 day)
  • Improving Organisational Performance (2 days)
  • Managing and Co-ordinating the L&D Function (2 days).

 

As well as the workshops, the programme includes:

  • eight online webinars one-hour each in duration
  • pre- and post-workshop exercises (for each workshop)
  • seven written assessments up to 3,000 words.
