This Aircraft Accident Investigation course delivers the skills necessary for airline staff to effectively take part in accident and serious incident investigation in compliance with the relevant industry standards.

The 5-day programme provides a thorough exploration of the root causes of aircraft accidents, with the goal of helping participants understand how they can enhance safety and prevent similar events from occurring in the future. Using comprehensive exercises and case studies, it provides them with a solid practical understanding of:

  • The objectives of aircraft accident investigation and its development over time
  • Global best practices in use by authorities, states & organisations involved in accident & incident investigation
  • Different categories of accidents and serious incidents
  • The role of the airline, nominated staff and workgroups in accident investigation
  • The rights of an airline in the compilation of the final report

By the end of the course, delegates will be qualified to take part in accident and serious incident investigation as established in the ICAO Annex 13 standards.

Prerequisites

Candidates should have a basic understanding of ICAO Annex 13.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

Participants who obtain 70% or higher on all exercises and exams will receive an IATA Certificate of Completion. A special distinction is awarded to those who achieve over 90%.

This course counts as a step towards earning the IATA Safety Management for Airlines Diploma and qualifies graduates to apply for the Harvard Management Mentor (HMM) e-learning programme at a discounted rate.
