Coaching in Practice - a 2 days training course at University of the West of England

This short training programme is is designed to provide the space and time to practice new tools and techniques for coaching in practice. In addition to offering the opportunity to reflect on and engage in coaching and mentoring, this course enables delegates to gain new perspectives in the impact and use of language in coaching.

Delegates will be able to gain feedback on their activities and simulated interventions. Attention will be given to both structured and unstructured practices and the consideration of different techniques to enhance coachee engagement. Participants should come prepared to actively explore a number of issues and will take on the roles of coach or mentor, coachee or mentee and observer.

From taking this course, individuals can expect to increase their skills and confidence using a range of tools and techniques to develop and enhance your coaching practice as well as:

  • The opportunity to reflect on and gain from constructive feedback
  • The opportunity to observe and learn from other coaches.

Suitability - Who should attend?

This course is suitable for a wide range of individuals seeking to become more competent in coaching. Specifically, this course is for coaching and management professionals who are interested in new techniques for coaching as well as those wishing to become professionals coaches, mentors, maangers or leaders. There are no formal pre-requisites for this course.

Training Course Content

This course is highly interactive. Participants are invited to engage in coaching experiences and should come prepared to coach, be a coachee and to offer feedback to others on their coaching interventions. Participants will be introduced to a range of tools and techniques and asked to try working with them and evaluate their suitability for their own context.

This trining course will include the following modules:

  • Practice using a range of techniques to develop rapport and explore individual goals within the coaching or mentoring session.
  • The use of perspective, limiting beliefs and feedback in helping an individual explore their current reality
  • The use of creative problem solving techniques to develop individual thinking and challenge perception.
  • The use of structured and unstructured approaches to encourage and challenge individual commitment to action
  • Reflection on the use of language, media, questioning and listening in coaching and mentoring delivery
