Oscars 2020: Who are the nominees?

Steve Martin and Chris Rock took aim at Amazon boss Jeff Bezos in their opening Oscars monologue.

The comedians followed a live performance by Janelle Monae and Billy Porter, and made sure to single out Bezos who was sitting in the audience.

“Jeff Bezos is so rich, when he cashes a cheque, the bank bounces,” Rock said. “He got divorced and he’s still the richest man in the world.”

He added: “He watched Marriage Story and thought it was a comedy.”

Rock then turned to Martin and asked if there was anything he wanted to add.

“No thanks, I like it when my packages arrive on time,” Martin quipped.

South Korean black comedy Parasite was the evening’s biggest winner, making history by becoming the first ever foreign language film to win Best Picture.

Other winners at the 2020 ceremony included Laura Dern, who took home the prize for Best Supporting Actress.

As expected, Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor for Joker following which he criticised inequality and paid tribute to his brother River Phoenix, who died in 1993.

Meanwhile, Olivia Colman had the audience in stitches before presenting Phoenix with his award.
