Linux / UNIX Operating System Training and Courses

Linux is an operating system that today consists of many varieties which are almost always free to use and is known as open source. Linux source is from the GNU project where the kernel Linux was developed with another software. Developed by Linus Torvalds, Linux is a product that was originally an experiment, and now mimics the form and function of a UNIX system, but is not derived from licensed source code. A major benefit of Linux is that the source code is freely available (under the GNU copyleft), which enable IT Professionals to alter and amend the system; it also means that there are many, freely available, utilities and specialist drivers available on the net.

UNIX is a powerful and flexible operating system, which as result of its success has led to many different versions being created by groups such as universities, research institutes, government bodies and computer companies. The powerful UNIX system is so popular as it is used to develop many of the technologies which today are part of the IT environment, including Computer Aided Design (CAD), manufacturing control systems, laboratory simulations, and even the Internet itself, which all began life with and because of UNIX systems.

In order for IT professionals to benefit and leverage Linux for their organisational advantage, delegates must attend training courses to learn how to create, edit and search Linux files; control permissions and ownership; process and format text data; and use shell scripts to to perform multiple tasks. Training and courses in Linux / Unix help delegates gain the knowledge and skills required to install, manage and tune a Linux server to meet their organisation's critical administrative needs. Delegates learn to control and troubleshoot the boot process; create and extend volume management; and deliver file, print and network services for both UNIX and Windows clients.

Linux, UNIX and system specific administration courses

Linux and UNIX courses aim to teach delegates about locating files by name, owner, type and other characteristics; navigating the UNIX directory hierarchy; manipulating files; and controlling file access. Courses also show delegates how to customise the KornShell, and extract and process information with filters and pipes. At advanced levels, courses provide IT professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to effectively use key standard UNIX and Linux tools and utilities, and how to adapt the UNIX/Linux environment to your particular needs.

Linux and UNIX courses also cover key topics such as Apache Web Server, Linux Advanced Shell Programming Tools, Linux Advanced System Administration (LPI), Linux Bash Shell Programming, Linux Essentials (LPI), and Linux Fundamentals.

Linux and UNIX courses are available for those starting out in the industry as well as for the professional looking to stay abreast of the latest developments.
