About PRINCE2

PRINCE2 is a method of achieving effective project management. In recent times, PRINCE2 has become a standard method of practice in both the public and private sectors in many countries. PRINCE2 has its origins in Britain in the 80s at local government levels.

PRINCE2 is the second edition of the project management method, which is a registered trademark of the Office of Government Commerce in Great Britain and is widely recognised and used in the private sector, both in the UK and internationally.

Take a PRINCE2 Certification and gain the skills, tools, confidence and qualifications to successfully manage and deliver projects in the workforce. A PRINCE2 qualification will give delegates the ability to use skills and techniques to managing projects within your organisation with common systems, procedures and language.

As a result of a PRINCE2 course, you will make fewer mistakes, better learn from those mistakes that you do make, and ultimately, save money and effort.

PRINCE2’s key features are:

  • its focus on business justification
  • a defined organisation structure for the project management team
  • its product-based planning approach
  • its emphasis on dividing the project into manageable and controllable stages
  • its flexibility to be applied at a level appropriate to the project.

PRINCE2 qualifications are separated into two levels, the PRINCE2 Foundation and the PRINCE2 Practitioner. The PRINCE2 Foundation is considered the beginners level for people needing to learn PRINCE2 basics and its terminology. The Foundation programme is followed by the PRINCE2 Practitioner, the highest level qualification of PRINCE2. The Practitioner qualification is suitable for those needing to manage projects within a specified PRINCE2 environment.

What is involved in project management?

Effective project managers are required for a project to be successful. Such a project manager guides the project through all its stages, from start-up / analysis / development through to execution / monitoring and project closure.

Demand for these successful project managers is increasing and there is now a large number of project management courses available. While some project management courses focus on the supervisor's role and are industry non-specific, other courses are customisable for specific industries or even towards specific projects.

Projects and project management

Formally defined, a project is a temporary effort to produce a unique product, service or service. In other words, a project is a temporary effort to achieve a specific objective. The project manager is responsible for achieving the goals.

With a successful project, the project’s budget is not exceeded, the project’s goals are met, employees are motivated and the project’s deadline is met. With a project manager course, delegates can learn to deliver a successful project.

Depending on the goals, expectations, budget and timeframe, certain projects will be easier, harder, longer or shorter than others. For an inexperienced project manager, it might be very difficult to bring together all the pieces and ensure that all stakeholders are pleased with the end result.

Becoming a skilled project manager

There are now a vast number of project management training programmes on the market, covering nearly all industries across the UK.

Project management courses can vary in style, length and delivery format and can be tailored to your specific industry. PRINCE2 courses can range from short basic courses of 1-2 days that take delegates through the basics, to lengthier project management courses teaching delegates how to structure and manage projects, to certified project management training, all the way to executive education degrees in project management.

The role of the Project Manager

The project manager’s task of structuring, managing and executing a project is a large factor towards the success of a project.

Project management tasks are often varied and a good project manager therefore needs skills and expertise in several areas. Project Management is not just about assigning and delegating tasks; the project manager needs to manage a team in the same direction, needs to establish project structure and needs to create project plans.

For a project to be efficient, the project manager needs to ensure that the right employees are in the right place, at the right time. Workforce sizes need to be managed to avoid delays, increased costs, and wasted time. Successful project management requires careful planning to anticipate any problems that arise, thus it is vital that project managers have the relevant training to ensure they are skilled leaders, organised planners and efficient problem solvers, all at the same time.

Agile Project Management (AMP) training and courses

Agile Project Management (AMP) is another project management methodology that promotes and encourages frequent inspection and adaptation processes, a leadership philosophy that encourages teamwork, organisation skills and accountability.

Best practices are used and implemented to allow rapid delivery of high-quality software, and a business approach that aligns development with customer needs and company goals.
