4 Week DIY Tiling Course

If you want to learn tiling comprehensively and to be able to undertake the most common aspects of tiling then this 4 week course is ideal. You will learn the basics before undertaking tiling in more complex areas and then move onto a C&G assessment and finish up learning to tile using slate and marble. Again, an ideal package of learning for those who will be sticking to domestic tiling or for those Plumbers and Kitchen Fitters who want to be able to offer a broader service of work.

This particular 4 week training programme will provide you with 4 certificates including a City & Guilds Unit Accreditation. Throughout the 4 weeks of tiling training, we will also cover health and safety, which tools are essentially required, which tool to use for each job, how much they cost, general maintenance and how often they need replacing etc. We are keen to ensure that once you have finished your tiling training that you have a comprehensive understanding of what tools and other items you will need to be fully equipped to start your tiling work.

Week 1 will teach you tiling basics, starting from scratch you will learn how to tile both wall and floor areas and gain a complete understanding of the requirements for any area you are planning to tile. Please see our Introductory Tiling course for full details of the content for week 1.

Week 2 is an advanced training week, providing you with the skills to tackle more complex areas and giving you the opportunity to build on your speed, technique and confidence. Please see our Advanced Tiling course for full details of the content for week 2.

Week 3 is an assessment of your skills for which successful candidates will receive a City & Guilds certificate and portfolio detailing the work done.

Week 4 we will teach you how to lay both marble and slate tiling.

Marble

This course will teach you how to tile with 4 x 4 natural tumbled marble. You will learn how to seal natural stone, understand required adhesives and be aware of how to enhance the stones natural features. During this course you will:

• Be allocated a fully fitted working area such as a bathroom or kitchen
• Receive a demonstration on how to prepare the wall areas to receive natural stone products
• Measure wall areas to calculate quantities required
• Prep wall areas
• Select natural stone products
• Mix appropriate adhesives

You will then:

• Spend approx 2 and half days installing the stone to wall areas
• Cutting the stone where necessary
• Ensuring (with your instructors help) that you are working to a domestic and commercial standard of finish whilst also working clean and safe
• Receive a demonstration on how and why you need to seal the products prior to grouting
• Seal the tiled area
• Grout your completed installation
• Clean as necessary prior to applying a necessary 2nd coat of seal

Slate

This course will teach you how to lay 12 x 12 natural slate tile as well as being taught how to overcome the uneven thickness of the tile when laying it onto a floor. During this course you will:

• Measure floor areas to calculate quantities required
• Prep floor areas
• Select and grade natural stone products
• Spend approx 1 and half days installing the slate to floor areas
• Seal the tiled area
• Grout your completed installation
• Clean as necessary prior to applying a necessary 2nd coat of seal

The training will see you learn tiling from scratch before moving on to more advanced and complex tiling, undertaking an assessment to show the level of competence you have achieved, supported by a City & Guilds Certificate and learning how to tile beautifully using Natural Stone products.

Our 4 week course is entirely hands on with excellent support and tuition from your Instructors who will also provide guidance and advice on quoting for jobs, how to measure up jobs (floors/walls) and how to set out a quote.

Throughout the 4 weeks of tiling training, we will demonstrate how to deal with any difficult areas you may come across like pipes, sockets, angled ceilings, uneven walls, tiling around a toilet system, windows, basins, baths, radiators etc. We will also teach you how to complete different aspects of tiling including borders, diamond and brickwork patterns; we will also incorporate the use of different sized and shaped materials including mosaics, slate, marble etc.

You will be taught the correct procedure to remove and replace damaged existing tiles with new tiles and work on building speed and precision. Our tiling course also includes training on how to lay electric under-floor heating. An assessment on week 3 will help you to see how much you have learned and we are confident that you will be amazed at your skill level.

If after this course you feel the desire to learn more about tiling then you could consider upgrading to our City & Guilds Tiling course, our NVQ Level 2 or NVQ Level 3 tiling training courses. We will take in to account the 4 weeks already completed on this course and adjust the price accordingly.

This entire 4 week course can be completed in 4 consecutive weeks, broken down in to 4 separate training weeks or the entire programme can also be completed at weekends. This course is ideal if you are looking to have tiling skills as a secondary income, maybe to support your existing trade.

This is a hands-on, practical tiling course and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential.

All of our courses take place at our dedicated training centre in Dartford, Kent. The centre is easily accessible by road, being just 10 minutes from junction 1a on the M25. We are only a short walk from Dartford train station which is served by frequent trains taking 35 minutes from central London. For anyone travelling from further away, we have our own accommodation available at only £25 per night.

This is a 4 week course and the cost is £1695.00 including vat. A deposit of £400.00 will secure a booking with the balance payable in instalments.
