Course description

Delegating for Shared Success

This course will enable leaders to delegate in a way that builds ownership while providing the development experiences employees want.

Delegation is more important than ever for today’s leaders to master. In a global climate of accelerating change and shifting demographics, organisations need engaged, knowledgeable, and highly skilled employees, and pipelines filled with future leaders.

Employees want interesting and meaningful work, the potential for growth, and a degree of choice about how work gets done. Delegation done well has the potential to satisfy both sets of interests. Much more than a way to get more work done faster, delegating is an opportunity for shared success—for organisations, managers, and employees alike.

Suitability - Who should attend?

First-line managers and first-level leaders can learn and apply best practices from Delegating for Shared Success, as well as leaders at other levels who would benefit from enhancing their ability to delegate.

Training Course Content

This course is often run as a half-day face-to-face event, or 2 x 90-min virtual instructor-led sessions.

This programme will enable your leaders to:

  • Identify reasons why they might not delegate as often as you could and what to do about it
  • Align delegated tasks and assignments with the most appropriate people to complete them
  • Demonstrate steps for an effective delegation conversation
  • Identify follow-up actions to facilitate employee progress, growth, and ensure result

This module contains the following key content:

  • The Best Match: Participants learn about factors to use when deciding what to delegate and to whom.
  • They apply them to a real-life delegating situation by interviewing each other.
  • The Delegation Conversation: Participants are introduced to the steps for a delegation conversation through a video demonstration, large-group discussion, and mingle activity.
  • Flexing Your Approach: Participants experiment with flexing their approach to delegation through a mini-case example and large-group discussion.
  • Following Up: Participants learn and apply best practices in follow-up using a video, large-group discussion, and an application assignment.
