Influencing Outcomes Through Others

This course will enable leaders to improve their ability to prepare and communicate in ways that persuade and inspire others to act differently.

Every day, leaders shape the future by offering guidance, proposing/selling ideas, and encouraging others to take action. Effective leaders know that the best way to influence outcomes is to actively engage and collaborate with others through dialogue.

Communicating a clear, concise, compelling message is essential given the ever-expanding volume of information and ever-shrinking human attention span. Laser-like communication focuses on the listener with genuine commitment to two-way dialogue.

Suitability - Who should attend?

First-level leaders can learn and apply best practices from Influence Outcomes Through Others, as well as leaders at other levels who need to improve their ability to prepare and communicate in ways that persuade and inspire others to act differently.

Training Course Content

This course is often run as a half-day face-to-face event, or 2 x 90-min virtual instructor-led sessions.

The programme will enable your leaders and emerging leaders to:

  • Describe what influence is and why it’s important to their role
  • Understand the five steps for engaging others to gain support and generate momentum
  • Frame ideas, proposals, and requests from the listener’s perspective
  • Apply a range of strategies to ensure that spoken messages are compelling and easy to understand
  • Build support and buy-in by encouraging an exchange of ideas, opinions, and concerns
  • Develop collaborative plans to move forward
  • Apply influencing skills to one-on-one, group, live, and virtual settings

This module contains the following key content:

  • Introducing the Idea: Participants learn how to introduce their idea in a persuasive way, through addressing the “what” and “why” of the proposal, and through  compelling delivery techniques.
  • Making the Case: Participants identify and apply strategies for offering supporting information in a way that meets the needs and interests of their audience.
  • Facilitating Exchange and Action: Participants develop their ability to explore reactions, concerns, and ideas regarding a proposal and to collaborate on a plan for moving forward in a way that builds buy-in and agreement on actions.
