Course description

City & Guilds Manual Handling Train the Trainer (Virtual Course)

We can now offer this course in a virtual format – using live online sessions with one of our regular trainers via Zoom. The course is split into 4 sessions of half day each. These can be run across two consecutive full days, but participants may find it easier to spread the course over a longer period e.g. 2 mornings per week for two weeks.

The course will provide the technical knowledge, training skills and course material to design, develop and deliver effective manual handling training. Key benefits of the course:

  • Nationally recognised certificate - the UK’s most popular course on this subject
  • Caters for a range of experience levels and sectors
  • Highly experienced instructors running the course
  • Participants receive a unique manual handling instructor pack
  • The course has been mapped to NOS (National Occupational Standards)
  • Results provided at the end of the course (no need to complete lengthy post-course assignments which delay you becoming a certified manual handling instructor for several months)
  • No expiry date on the certificate (you can make your own judgement regarding the frequency of refresher training. We suggest every 3 years)

The course concentrates upon the safe handling of materials and objects (rather than patients). Therefore, it is suitable for sectors such as manufacturing, office, construction, distribution, estates, catering, defence, logistics, driver CPC etc. as well as non-clinical healthcare.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Course aimed at:

  • Managers and supervisors intending to conduct in-house training
  • Consultants and trainers providing services to a range of clients
  • Existing providers of manual handling training who want refresher certification
  • The course is suitable for participants from a wide range of backgrounds. For those with limited experience, this is not a problem, as long as you are not petrified by the thought of standing up and speaking in front of a group. We do ask for a good grasp of English

Outcome / Qualification etc.

Participants will gain the following competences:

  • Be able to run training sessions on manual handling with the confidence to answer commonly occurring questions
  • Understand how to motivate trainees and ensure the effectiveness of the training – a major hurdle which many courses fail to address adequately.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the anatomy of the spine and appreciate the impact on the spine of both good and bad handling technique
  • Understand the principles of safe handling and be able to explain safe handling to others in a logical and memorable manner
  • Understand the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and be able to perform manual handling risk assessments

Training Course Content

Exclusive instructor pack contains:

  • Comprehensive course manual
  • Lesson plan for suggested courses
  • PowerPoint slides which can be adapted
  • Useful video clips

Time saving extras such as a test paper, practical assessment sheet and risk assessment form.

Open courses

  • £495 + VAT for the first person
  • £475 + VAT for any additional people from the same company

There are no additional costs for open courses - the price includes your instructor pack, online tuition and the City & Guilds registration and certification fees.

Please contact Alistair to discuss date options regarding open courses.

In-house courses

If you have 5 or more staff to be trained, an in-house course might be considered (maximum of 8 delegates). We can tailor the content to suit your needs and can alter the daily timings to fit your schedule.

The cost of an in-house event is composed of two elements:

  • Course cost £1,795 + VAT
  • City & Guilds registration and certification fees of £90 + VAT per person

Thus, for a group of 8 the total cost would be £2,515 + VAT. There would be no additional costs.

Please contact Alistair to discuss date options regarding in-house courses.
