Course description

To build on experience gained at beginners level and extend knowledge of equipment and techniques to develop good levels of skill to produce your own chosen projects. By the end of the course students will: have knowledge of primary and secondary colours and of how to combine them effectively; be able to use equipment and processes to develop range and complexity of techniques and creativity; take and record measurements for the chosen task; choose fabrics, interfacings and haberdashery appropriate to the task; use technical language in planning, evaluation and record-keeping; research and formulate ideas to produce finished products; be able to use equipment and techniques in line with current health & safety requirements; know about the skills and qualifications required for employment in the textiles industry and produce samples of techniques and designs for portfolio building.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Level 1 or above in literacy and numeracy (free help is available in BAES if required). Your tutor will assess your sewing skills to ensure the course is the right level for you. You will be asked to complete an initial assessment to clarify your level of English and maths. This will enable the tutor to plan your individual learning record with you.
