Revit Standards & Management Open Course by Cadassist in Manchester, London, and Glasgow

Get an introduction to the techniques and best practices to efficiently and effectively manage Revit through the use of standards. The overarching aim of this course is to equip participants with the skills to develop a more efficient, enjoyable and design-based experience for the Revit user whilst creating a standardised and recognisable set of drawings and documentation for their organisation.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be equipped to:

  • Explain how Revit allows one to produce standards
  • Understand the process of selecting how to develop a Revit standard to suit organisations
  • Create a template
  • Utilise the various settings within Revit to customise a template to reflect company standards
  • Make electronic CAD output consistent with your CAD standard

Suitability - Who should attend?

This Revit Standards and Management course is aimed towards design professionals who would like to learn how to increase their efficiency with Revit through the use of CAD standards. 

To enrol on the course, candidates must have either completed the Revit Essentials course (or equivalent) or have basic experience using Revit.

How Standards Work Within Revit

  • Revit Templates –the seed of your project
  • Transfer project standards to your template

Template Files

  • The three ways to create a project template –the pros and cons of each
  • Change file locations and add libraries

Line Weights and Object Styles

  • Use categories and subcategories, rather than layers, to control drawing appearance
  • Understand line weight projection and cut
  • Work with object styles and pen numbers

Line Styles

  • Use a template to standardise line styles
  • Understand line patterns, detail styles, object styles and system families
  • Associate a line pattern with a line style or grid

Text and Dimensions

  • Create a Revit text style to match your existing standards
  • Understand how Revit splits dimensions into different system families
  • Create a custom arrowhead

Title Blocks, Parametersand Labels

  • The best way to create a title block in Revit
  • How to use a title block from an existing project
  • Use visibility graphics overrides
  • Develop and extract information from your Revit project using parameters
  • Behavioural differences between Revit parameters and AutoCAD attributes
  • The power of shared parameters

Tags, Grid Bubbles and Section/ Level Heads

  • Use tags to display the text value of desired element parameters
  • Bet methods for creating new tags
  • Understand the difference between system families and symbols
  • Manage elevation tags
  • Creating a grid type

Views

  • Use view templates to control multiple view categories
  • Set up Revit so it will automatically draw plans, such as your fire strategy plan or furniture plan, as you create your project

Exporting to Other CAD Formats

  • Creating a layer mapping file and matching it to your company CAD standards
  • Using batch conversions to save time
  • Hints for using the PCP file that Revit creates
