Course description

Level 3 in Engineering

Most learners on the BTEC Level 3 programme work towards a BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in year one and progress onto an extended Diploma in year two. The emphasis is on learning theories, concepts and practices within engineering that will provide knowledge and understanding to enable the learner to analyse, solve and evaluate real engineering problems.

Suitability - Who should attend?

You will need to have 4 GCSEs at grade 9 – 4 (A* - C) to include Maths, or successful completion of a full Level 2 qualification. In addition you will need to have a successful interview that shows interests and hobbies related to the world of Engineering. In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.

  • Personal Professional Development - Preparation work in readiness for a job interview or apprenticeship in Engineering e.g. CV writing and completing job application forms.
  • Preparation work for UCAS and entry to University.
  • Managing study and private learning and how to explore different methods of learning.

Continuing Studies

Successful completion of all elements of this study programme will allow you to progress in several different ways, including;

  • A further full or part time study programme to level 4 HNC in Engineering
  • Gaining of employment within the Engineering industry at junior technician level
  • An advanced apprenticeship scheme in Engineering.
