Course description

UAL Level 2 in Creative Media

This introduction to creative media provides the knowledge and skills to plan and produce media work across a range of industries including video games, audio production, media industries, Film & TV and digital production. You will have the opportunity to gain work experience, industry talks, trips, expos and more. You will contribute towards the design, production and release of original games, music and film products through our own media company, 5 Star Media CRC. You could even have the opportunity to publish your work to the choice of Xbox, PC, Nintendo, Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, YouTube and more.

Suitability - Who should attend?

As of September 2017, the entry requirement for Level 2 Creative Media are 3 GCSEs at grade 9 - 3 (A* - D) or above or a Level 1 Pass. Typical Work: The awarding body, University of Arts London, strongly urges a constant sense of self-guidance and independent work throughout the course. Students will need to generate creative ideas, experiment further with them and ultimately create a portfolio of work demonstrating all the necessary skills. This will include a variety of research and practical skills centred on the industries of Film & TV, Games Development and Music Production. A large part of the qualification is focused on the student being able to communicate their ideas and show self-reflection and evaluation as well as a critical understanding of the practices they are developing. They will write, record and present their ideas to build their confidence and showcase ideas. In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview. Outcome / Qualification etc.

  • Understanding of audio, visual and interactive media production techniques including video production techniques, video editing, audio production techniques, audio editing, image manipulation, interactive design and games development.
  • Skills with a range of tools and software, for example, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, GameMaker, Logic Pro, Cameras & Voice Recorders
  • Employability skills, planning and development of an independent project, time management, teamwork, presentation techniques, critical and creative thinking
  • English and Maths through vocational assignments, Functional Skills and the GCSE retake programme.

Continuing Studies

This qualification helps you to progress on to Level 3 UAL Creative Media Production & Technology Study Programme Specialisms in:

  • Film and Television Production Music Production
  • Games Development Photography
  • Multimedia Journalism Traineeships, apprenticeships within the wider commercial/creative based industries and supported through Cambridge Regional College. Please note, in order to progress to the Level 3 UAL Diploma in Creative Media Production you are currently required to successfully complete Level 2 UAL Creative Media Production & Technology with a Pass or above.
