Course description

Holiday pay and leave - half day payroll training course in holiday pay and entitlement regulations

This holiday pay and leave course provides an overview of the legal requirements and day-to-day practicalities of handling leave and holiday pay in a fair, consistent and compliant manner.

The half-day programme takes a scenario-based approach to explore potentially tricky situations such as:

  • Entitlement changes during leave
  • Part-time workers' entitlement to bank holidays
  • Entitlement accrual during absence

Worked exercises will include thorough explanations of the calculations. In addition, the course provides up-to-date overviews of recent and future changes in the regulations as affected by ongoing case law.

Managers, supervisors and practitioners who need to understand both the legal requirements and the daily practicalities of handling holiday pay and leave.

To provide delegates with the underpinning knowledge, case law and statutes which govern holiday pay and leave calculations and apply this knowledge in a range of circumstances, so they can manage this provision for their organisations accurately and professionally.

  • Appreciate the implications of the different types of annual leave entitlement
  • Know how to calculate entitlement for starters, leavers, part-week and part-year workers and pro-rata bank holiday entitlements

    • Pro-rata entitlement and bank holidays
    • Changing working hours
  • Entitlement during other leave
    • During sickness absence
    • During maternity and adoption leave
    • During additional or ordinary parental leave
    • During shared parental leave
  • Future changes
    • The changing definition of holiday pay
    • Possible future changes to the Working Time Regulations
