Suitability - Who should attend?

Law on Tour is recommended for HR practitioners who need to keep up-to-date with the latest developments in employment law.

Course content

During the day, the sessions will include:

  • Menopause at work – what adjustments should employers make and how can you avoid stereotypical assumptions?
  • Employment contracts and employment status – deciding which contract type is appropriate; the new items to be added by law to all written particulars; the effect of IR35 rules; fixed-term versus open-ended contracts; and worker versus employee status.
  • Being really clear about who transfers under TUPE, for example, workers who perform work personally but who aren’t employees (also known as ‘limb (b) workers’).
  • Harassment – are your policies, procedures and practices robust enough to meet any new legal requirements?
  • What to do if an employee goes AWOL. Can you stop their pay, and when is it fair to dismiss them?
  • Following the Jhuti decision, understanding how this changes the law on whistleblowing and the practical steps you can take to mitigate liability for claims of detriment, injury to feelings, and unlimited unfair dismissal awards.
  • Without prejudice discussions, and confidential negotiations: how to tell the difference between them; how to enter into them; when each can be lawfully entered into.
  • Case law – a detailed explanation of the relevant law and the practical implications of the decisions made in the tribunals and courts.
  • Employment law news – everything you need to know about changes to the law in 2020.
