Course description

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) - CPD accredited course at City University London

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning is a known process for gaining formal recognition for skills and knowledge possessed or has been awarded as credit. Through this module, your prior learning and professionals experiences can be formally recognised and help you gain higher education courses in school. Also, during the training, you will gain critical reflection on structured and unstructured professional experiences.

Suitability - Who should attend?

APEL module applies to you:
· If you do not possess a diploma or any equivalent for your entry into undergraduate degree at School of Health Sciences
· If your professional education gained overseas is equivalent to certification in the UK then APEL can help you demonstrate diploma level learning through reflection and gain top-up undergraduate degree programme
· If you have done one or more modules at School of Health Sciences, City University London or any other in UK and do not have a diploma at degree level
· If you intend to study for mentorship qualification at City University and do not have a diploma

Overseas students can only apply as part of a programme and not as a stand-alone module.
· You will normally be a healthcare or social professional interested in pursuing a top-up undergraduate degree programme at the School of Health Sciences
· You must possess 120 level 4 credits or any equivalent which are usually acquired through training as a health care professional. This would be equivalent to (level 4) certificate level qualifications in the UK
· You do not possess a diploma or equivalent qualification to enable you to proceed directly to degree level learning. Please note that if you have gained a diploma qualification overseas, this may be equivalent to a certificate qualification in UK. In the latter case, you will need to enrol for the APEL module before joining the a BSc top-up degree programme
· You may have studied for occasional degree level modules in the past or more recently but do not have a diploma or equivalent qualification.

Applicants whose first language is not English need to demonstrate their English language proficiency. The minimum requirements are:
· IELTS: 7 overall with a minimum of 7.0 in each component.
Please note that due to changes in the UKVI's list of SELTs, City University London no longer accepts TOEFL as evidence of English language proficiency for students who require a CAS as of April 2014.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

Completing this module does not award credits for a diploma or a degree. It helps accredit your prior learning in gaining an undergraduate degree at School of Health Sciences. Successful completion of the APEL module gets updated to degree level studies progress and helps if you intend to study for undergraduate programme at the School.

Accreditations of Prior Learning (APL) is different from APEL being used it to avoid repetition of specific modules by providing evidence of modules already undertaken at the School of Health Sciences, City University London or at another institution in the UK.
