Air Safety Management MSc

Air Safety Management MSc - a City University degree programme

The course gives professionals an edge against those who are currently working in operating, maintenance, support and regulatory sectors of the aviation industry, both civilian and military. One of the main goals of this course is achieving and maintaining an acceptable level of safety practices in air traffic, commercial competition and cost consciousness. These safety mechanisms that are being taught will be applicable in aircraft operations, aircraft design and manufacture, airports, air traffic control, ground handling and maintenance and private flying.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Applicants should be employed in the aviation industry for the duration of the course and should have at least two years of experience in a position of professional responsibility at the time of application.Applicants should hold an Air Transport Pilot's Licence, Aircraft Engineer Licence, Air Traffic Controller Licence or a relevant lower second class honours degree or the equivalent from an international institution.

Candidates who are not from the European Economic Area / Switzerland and are coming to study in the UK may need to apply for a visa or entry clearance to come to the UK to study. /p>

The way to apply may vary depending on the length of the course taken; there are different rules for:

  • Students on courses of more than 6 months
  • Students on courses of less than 6 months
  • Students on a pre-sessional English Language course

Please note:Candidates requiring a Tier 4 student visa to study in the UK, cannot undertake any City University London courses on a part-time basis.

Training Course Content

The course is based on completing nine modules, which are taught over three day periods and held frequently throughout the year. Students are also required to undertake a project in an air safety-related subject.Students who choose not to complete the project receive a Postgraduate Certificate on successful completion of five modules or a Postgraduate Diploma on successful completion of nine modules.

Teaching
The modules are taught as 3-day short courses. For the MSc degree, the taught component can be completed in one to three years, with the final project taking approximately six months following completion of all the taught modules. Modules are delivered by experts from across the aviation industry and are highly interactive to encourage exchanges of views and experience.

Expenses

The cost of the programme is:

  • Part-time EU: £13,500 (total cost for 3 years) until 31 May 2015
  • Part-time Non EU: £13,500 (total cost for 3 years) until 31 May 2015

Bursaries

The Honourable Company of Airline Pilots (formerly known as GAPAN) offer up to three Bursaries of part payment of fees per year for the MSc Air Transport management and the Air Safety Management and Aircraft Maintenance MSc Programmes each year.

AJ Walter offer an additional annual Bursary for a student on the MSc Maintenance Management Programme, usually allocated to a different geographical region each year.

Additionally, all students may apply for a scholarship from the ISTAT Foundation that is competitive with other universities across the world.
