Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution LLM - a City University degree programme

The programme gives professionals a unique opportunity to develop careers in civil legal professional practice. The course manages litigation and provides an insight regarding mediation and arbitration for resolving disputes of particular importance. The specialised degree gives professionals a sound understanding of the litigation, arbitration and mediation operations based on current scholarship including areas such as procedure, evidence and ethics. There is a focus on current issues and likely future developments.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Applicants should normally hold a good first degree in law, or an equivalent qualification in a related discipline, and must be fluent in written and spoken English. We expect applicants who are not nationals of a majority English-speaking country OR have not successfully completed an academic qualification, at least equivalent to a UK bachelor's degree, which was taught in a majority English-speaking country as defined by the UK Visas and Immigration, to have an overall IELTS score of at least 7.0.

Applicants with a first degree in a subject other than law will be considered, but it should be noted that this may restrict the choice of modules where content is dependent on a prior knowledge of law.

How do we make our decision?

In reaching our selection decisions we will take account of:

  • Academic performance
  • Reasons for choice of courses / career
  • Evidence of intellectual ability
