Cognitive Communication Impairments

Cognitive Communication Impairments - CPD accredited course at City University London

The module provides important materials for those working as speech and language therapists with young people having communication disorders.

The module leads you through current research and basics of cognitively based communication impairments such as dementia, right hemisphere damage, head injury and developmental language impairment.

You will get training on current theories of relations between cognition and language in different clinical populations.

Suitability - Who should attend?

The training course is applicable for candidates meeting the following criteria:
· First or second-class honours’ degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject
· The Licentiate Diploma of the Royal college of Speech and Language Therapists is also accepted.
Individuals with less than a second class degree will be considered where they have substantial relevant experience (Clinical, teaching or other relevant professional experience).

Overseas students can only apply as part of a programme and not as a stand-alone module.
Applicants whose first language is not English need to demonstrate their English language proficiency. The minimum requirements are:
· IELTS: 7 overall with a minimum of 7.0 in each component.

Please note that due to changes in the UKVI's list of SELTs, City University London no longer accepts TOEFL as evidence of English language proficiency for students who require a CAS as of April 2014.

Training Course Content

The module will cover:
· Assessment and intervention in dementia and head injury
· Cognitive processing in acquired language impairments and implications for intervention
· Quality of life issues in acquired cognitive communication impairments
· Cognitive processing and social communication in developmental language impairment and implications for intervention.


The cost of this CPD course for UK/EU applicants is £1000 per delegate (no VAT will be charged) which covers course materials, lunch and refreshments.
