Course description

French Beginners Fast Track

Learn French from scratch in this fast-paced short course. This evening French Beginners Fast Track course is designed for complete beginners who want to progress quickly.

You will develop essential speaking, listening, reading and writing skills as well as a solid understanding of the structure of the language.

The course consists of two evenings per week for 10 weeks, covering modules 1 and 2 of the normal-paced beginners course. After this, students can join module 3 of the Beginners Year 1 course.

Learning objectives

  • Greeting people;
  • Introducing yourself, your family and others;
  • Talking about nationalities and jobs;
  • Talking about your daily routine;
  • Describing your house and your neighbourhood;
  • Selecting food and wine in a shop/ restaurant;
  • Dressing up for the four seasons;
  • Describing people, clothes and buying habits;
  • Calendar and telling the time;
  • Talking about your interests and making plans;
  • Asking for help, for information;
  • Inviting, arranging to meet and replying to an invitation;
  • Visiting the doctor;
  • Ordering meals and making travel reservations;
  • Expressing wishes;
  • Describing a sequence of events in the past;
  • Handling short social exchanges in present, past and immediate future tenses.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Prerequisite knowledge

No prior knowledge required. This is a course for complete Beginners.

The French Beginners Fast Track short course is designed for complete beginners with no prior knowledge of the French language.

The fast track course covers Module One and Module Two of the standard French Beginners (Year 1)course. Once you have completed the fast track course you may choose to enrol on Module Three of the French Beginners course in April/May to complete the full beginners syllabus.

If you are not a complete beginner and have some prior knowledge of French, you may wish to join our course or join Module Two or Module Three of the French Beginners (Year 1) course or the French Beginners Refresher (Year 2) course. You can check your level using our online guidelines.

English requirements

You will need to respond to instructions and read course documents in English.
