Course description

French Beginners Refreshers (Year 2)

The course will revisit topics taught in the Beginners course with an emphasis on fluency and pronunciation, learning new grammar and extensive vocabulary. The course will help you build confidence, strengthen your ability to communicate more fluently and offer the opportunity to broaden your cultural understanding.

The course consists of one evening class a week, for a total of 30 weeks; spread across three modules, which is ideal for those with various commitments or working full-time.

Learning objectives

Module 1

  • Perfecting pronunciation of basic French sounds;
  • Recognising sounds in short French clips *Expressing opinions;
  • Agreeing and disagreeing;
  • Talking about past actions;
  • Giving small presentations;
  • Making complaints and compliments;
  • Making plans for the future.
  • Expressing nuances.

Module 2

  • Perfecting pronunciation of more complex sounds French sounds;
  • Listening and understanding more complex French clips;
  • Expressing wishes and preferences;
  • Ordering and asking for details;
  • Talking about events in present, past and future;
  • Participating to a small debate;
  • Making plans and organising;
  • Giving instructions.

Module 3

  • Perfecting intonation and accent;
  • Listening and understanding some news (radio or tv);
  • Expressing emotions and desires;
  • Presenting a topic of your choice and discussing it;
  • Talking about social media;
  • Understanding and giving instructions;
  • Expressing personal aspirations and goals.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Prerequisite knowledge

This course is ideal if you have completed our French Beginners course or if you have 40 hours of prior learning. You can check your level using our online guidelines.

Modules are taught at progressive levels so we strongly recommend starting with Module One in the autumn term.

English requirements

You will need to respond to instructions and read course documents in English.
