Course description

French Beginners Summer Intensive (Year 1)

Learn French from scratch with this intensive summer course designed for complete beginners who want to quickly gain social communication skills to get by in France in daily life situations.

You will be perfecting pronunciation of basic French words, recognising sounds in short French clips, give small presentations, learning different tenses, understanding the press and discovering French culture.

Expect to be immersed in the French language even at this early stage with many speaking and group work activities.

With the support of a tutor to facilitate your learning in class and outside the class with electronic means, you will be able to engage in a mini conversation with French native speakers at the end of the course.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Prerequisite knowledge

The French Summer Intensive course is designed for complete beginners with no prior knowledge of French.

If you are not a complete beginner and have some prior knowledge, you may wish to join our French Beginners Refresher course or join Module Two or Module Three of the  French Beginners course. You can check your level using our online guidelines.

English requirements

You will need to respond to instructions and read course documents in English. Some instructions and basic grammar explanation will be given in English.

  • Wearing and choosing clothes including colours;
  • Buying and shopping for vegetable;
  • Fruits and any kind of food;
  • Ordering meals and drinks in a restaurant or at the bar;
  • Exercising sports and visiting places or exhibitions;
  • Expressing your preferences;
  • Likes and dislikes.
