Course description

International Business Law (distance learning) LLM

International Business Law (distance learning) LLM - a City University degree programme

The distance learning LLM in International Business Law provides you with specialist knowledge of key areas of law relevant to international business. The course develops on the enhancement of professional skills and ability to locate and analyse laws, rules and policies in international business.

Suitability - Who should attend?

The City Law School accepts candidates for postgraduate study who have very strong academic potential and good English. Applicants should normally hold a first degree in law from a recognised university (Lower second class honours or higher). Applicants with UK honours degrees or equivalent in a subject other than law will also be considered.

An appropriate professional qualification and relevant experience may also be acceptable. Applicants not in possession of a law degree are also encouraged to apply and will be considered. Also, those without formal qualifications but who have more than 10 years relevant working experience may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants whose first language is not English, the following qualifications are also required:

  • IELTS: 7.0 average, 6.5 minimum in each section
  • PTE Academic: 65 or better.

Other language tests may be accepted or exemptions granted, at the discretion of the Programme Director, if you are able to demonstrate evidence of proficiency in English to the level of 7.0 on the IELTS.

Please note that due to changes in the UKVI's list of SELTs we are no longer able to accept TOEFL as evidence of English language for students who require a CAS as of April 2014.

If you are not from the European Economic Area / Switzerland and you are coming to study in the UK you may need to apply for a visa or entry clearance to come to the UK to study. /p>

The way that you apply may vary depending on the length of your course; there are different rules for:

  • Students on courses of more than 6 months
  • Students on courses of less than 6 months
  • Students on a pre-sessional English Language course

Please note: If you require a Tier 4 student visa to study in the UK, you cannot undertake any City University London courses on a part-time basis.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

By the end of the LLM International Business Law by distance learning programme, you will not only have gained specialist knowledge in key areas of law from an international business perspective but will have also acquired transferable skills essential to understanding, and succeeding in, the world of International Business Law. Training Course Content

The distance learning LLM programme is designed to help you develop a broader and deeper knowledge of the legal rules which impact on international business. You will be given an opportunity to acquire transferable legal and research skills which will help enhance your career prospects as an international business professional or legal practitioner.

As this is a distance learning programme, it will allow you to learn in your own working environment and at your own pace. You will be given appropriate study materials but you will also be encouraged to explore and identify areas for research and reflection.

Once you have completed the core module, Foundations of Law in International Business, you may choose five additional modules you wish to study. Each module is taught via the virtual learning environment (VLE), which incorporates a range of media and technology.
