Course description

Professional Advocacy LLM

Professional Advocacy LLM - a City University degree programme

The Specialist LLM in Professional Advocacy provides unique opportunities to professionals in managing litigation and dispute resolution. Important training in representing stakeholders’ interests and understanding criminal justice systems will also be covered. The course uses a skill based approach and uses dispute resolution procedures in teaching.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Applicants should normally hold a good first degree in law, or an equivalent qualification in a related discipline, and must be fluent in written and spoken English. We expect applicants who are not nationals of a majority English-speaking country OR have not successfully completed an academic qualification, at least equivalent to a UK bachelor's degree, which was taught in a majority English-speaking country as defined by the UK Visas and Immigration, to have an overall IELTS score of at least 7.0.

Applicants with a first degree in a subject other than law will be considered, but it should be noted that this may restrict the choice of modules where content is dependent on a prior knowledge of law.

How do we make our decision?

In reaching our selection decisions we will take account of:

  • Academic performance
  • Reasons for choice of courses / career
  • Evidence of intellectual ability
  • References
  • Relevant work experience / activity
