Course description

Spanish Upper Intermediate (Year 3)

You will continue to develop a command of the Spanish language using the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Grammar will be covered in context.

Homework will be set each week and will include exercises to practice what has been learnt in class, increase reading comprehension and prepare for the next class.

Learning objectives

Module 1

  • Talk about habits, customs and circumstances in the past
  • Express the duration of an action
  • Express obligation and prohibition
  • Ask someone to pass on messages
  • Develop communication strategies.

Module 2

  • Express wishes about the future
  • Give advice
  • Talk about events and relating anecdotes
  • To express feelings and interests: talk about relationships
  • Describe the characteristics and function of a given object.

Module 3

  • Refer to an item in the news and comment about it
  • Consolidate vocabulary related to media
  • Make predictions and/or conjectures for the future
  • Give advice.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Prerequisite knowledge

The Spanish Upper Intermediate short course is ideal if you have one of the following:

  • successfully completed Spanish Lower Intermediate Year 2 short course
  • approximately 100-120 hours of prior formal study
  • a rusty (but good) Spanish A-level.

Modules are taught at progressive levels, starting with Module One in the autumn (October).

If you wish to join Module Two of the Spanish Upper Intermediate short course (in January), you must have completed Module One or be familiar with the content taught in Module One, specified in the  What will I learn? section.

If you wish to enrol on Module Three of the short course (in April/May), you must have completed both Module One and Module Two or be familiar with the content taught in these two modules, found in the  What will I learn? section.
