Course description

Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) in Excel - Part 1

You will learn to write macros to accept user input, read to and write from cells and manipulate data. You will also learn to write custom functions and create user forms. Useful examples of problems and their solutions are provided.

This short course is ideal for those with a good knowledge of MS Excel and would like to add additional functionality. No programming knowledge is required.

What will I learn?

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Record and run macros
  • Use the Visual Basic environment to edit programs
  • Write Visual Basic code, using variables, loops and if statements
  • Understand Excel VBA functions and write their own functions
  • Understand and apply object-oriented concepts
  • Be acquainted with the most important Excel VBA objects and properties
  • Understand events in Excel
  • Debug (i.e. correct) errors.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Prerequisite knowledge

Strong knowledge of MS Excel, otherwise participants are having to learn Excel as well as VBA. participants should be able to:

  • Comfortably use separate worksheets
  • Add/delete columns and rows
  • Basic formatting of spreadsheets.
  • Use formulas and basic functions including IF() and ideally VLookup() and or CountIf()

Our Applied MS Excel for Business is a good grounding for this.

English requirements

You must have proficient written and spoken English.
