Arts Management:

This course is ideal for freelancers, creative start-ups, entrepreneurs, aspiring curators and simply anyone with ideas! A great foundation for anyone wishing to pursue a career in arts management. This course will provide you with an introduction to the role of arts organisations. You will be introduced to the processes involved with setting up an arts organisation and start to learn about how you could start to build your own business plan. Through presentations, exercises case studies and feedback, you will consider and discuss different types of arts organisation models. Learn about funding stream possibilities. And understand what is involved with planning, organising and delivering a programme of arts events, exhibitions and workshops. Between classes you will be asked to complete a short task, involving research. This will help you to evaluate and identify areas for personal development and get you started with the beginnings of a business strategy.

An introduction to the following topics will be covered: Setting up an arts organisation; Curating; Arts education and outreach programmes; Membership, arts prizes and competitions; Working space; Press releases; An overview of social media marketing and platforms; Money matters - funding your business; Recruiting and managing others; Key partners, building wider strategic partnerships - cultural events and festivals.

By the end of the course, you will have a greater knowledge of the role of arts organisations as well as a greater confidence in the processes involved with project managing and supporting a business successfully. You will have started to create a personal action plan/business model, to help you start the exciting journey of developing, establishing or marketing your business. This interactive course will also provide you with networking opportunities as you begin to build new relationships within the arts.
