Course description

The world of IT governance and management has evolved to the point where taking a ‘one size fits all’ approach isn’t just wasteful, but dangerous. There are so many variables in terms of tools, methodologies, environmental factors, and so on, that for an organization to truly optimize its use of IT, a bespoke approach is required.

COBIT 2019 is the latest iteration of the COBIT framework from ISACA. Unlike its predecessor COBIT 5, this new version is based on customization and adaptability. In this course, students will learn how to use COBIT 2019 to create frameworks which will not only be suited to a specific organization’s goals and requirements, but also the relationships that IT can have with other business domains and priorities. They will also look at COBIT 2019’s open-source model, a feature that will see the framework regularly updated based on continued insight from the professional IT governance community. The course will also take students through how COBIT 2019 can accommodate not only IT methodologies, such as DevOps and ITIL 4, and popular technology like cloud data, but also compliance regulations such as the GDPR.

This course is ideal for IT managers who wish to maximize the value they offer to their organizations. With COBIT’s focus on both business and IT requirements, the course is also well suited to business managers who want to expand their knowledge of an increasingly crucial element of the corporate world.

Benefits of COBIT 2019

COBIT 2019 is an IT governance and management framework designed to help businesses and organizations design systems that can optimize the value of IT. COBIT 2019 is unique in its approach, with a ‘Core Model’ of Governance and Management Objectives that can be weighed based on a user’s unique tools and requirements. This could include IT elements like cloud storage or the Internet of Things, methodologies such as ITIL 4, or even compliance objectives such as the GDPR. In short, the primary benefit of COBIT 2019 is that it can suit any organization which utilizes IT.

Another great advantage of COBIT 2019 is that, unlike COBIT 5, it utilizes an open-source model. This means that ISACA will continue to take feedback from the practitioner community, incorporating any relevant insight on future practices or technology in order to ensure COBIT 2019 can accommodate them. COBIT 2019 frameworks are also designed for regular reassessment, with practitioners being encouraged to constantly look for opportunities to make positive changes. Combined, these factors will prepare COBIT 2019 practitioners to not only create optimized systems, but also to continue improving them in the future.

Becoming certified in COBIT 2019 can be an excellent career stepping stone for business and IT managers. It will demonstrate their understanding of the differences between IT governance and management, as well as their ability to make IT as valuable and bespoke a tool as possible. This can help practitioners to unlock incredible career and networking opportunities.
