Course description

ESOL - Full Time - Beginners / Entry 1 / Entry 2:

In this course, students can join our full-time Young Foundation courses for young people from all over the world. We offer the Young Foundation courses at beginners, Entry 1 and Entry 2. At Entry 3, our full-time students progress to our ESOL Vocational Courses with a broad choice of vocational subjects: science, business, ICT, childcare and tasters in vocational studies (sport, leisure and tourism, art, drama). We focus on improving your English communication skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. There are assignment classes in sport, geography, arts, science, maths and IT sessions. Good communication skills in English will make it easier for you to make friends, study other courses, find a part-time job or work as a volunteer. Our students go on regular trips and have access to a wide range of support and extra-curricular activities.

We are a strong team of 20 ESOL teachers with over 200 years of teaching experience who understand and care about ESOL students and their needs.

We know how to make you learn as much English as possible, so we use a wide variety of teaching techniques to make learning fun.

While at Harrow College, you will learn a lot of important skills and your timetable will include the following subjects:

  • Speaking and listening.
  • Reading.
  • Writing.
  • Maths.
  • ICT.
  • Work-related modules.
  • Science, art and geography.
  • Career advice and personal tutorial support.

On average, 17 hours per week.

  • Homework.
  • e-learning/directed self-study.

You will be regularly assessed during your course and receive feedback to help you develop the skills required for the final assessment whether an exam or a portfolio of your work. You will receive nationally recognised qualifications at the end of your course.

We are very proud of our ESOL students. Last year, our students achieved over 3,000 qualifications with an overall achievement rate of 93.8% (well above national average). All our students continue studying at Harrow College and we have a lot of successful stories about how our students have progressed to BTEC courses, A-Level courses, university and into successful employment. Do ask us about those stories when you come for an interview!

Gaining an ESOL qualification will enable you to take a more active part in the community, find a part-time job, work as a volunteer or be able to help others in the community.

Suitability - Who should attend?

No formal qualifications required. Students' level of English as well as interest and suitability for the programme will be determined by a written test and an interview at enrolment.
