The course is for complete beginners who want to learn the basics of home baking and those wishing to build up a repertoire of tried and tested recipe favourites for serving to families and friends.
COURSE CONTENT
The course aims to provide an introduction to the techniques involved in home baking and will give students the opportunity of practising some basic recipes. Instruction will be given in the use of utensils, materials and equipment together with an emphasis on Health and Safety issues. Each week a different technique will be studied and will include: Cakes - creamed method Whisked sponges for cakes and flans Cakes - rubbing in method Choux pastry Cookies and pastry (pies and tarts) Bread rolls, pizza base Scones and dumplings: scones will be baked at the first lesson. As part of your course and where the opportunity occurs literacy/numeracy together with speaking and listening skills will be developed.
STUDY METHODS
Lecture, demonstration and practical work (each week students will prepare one recipe which may be cooked in class or taken home for completion).
