Breakaway Training
Breakaway techniques are vital manoeuvres used by a member of staff to break away from a potentially violent person without harming him or her.

Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at anyone who is at risk of physical assault in the workplace. Such as: -
- Healthcare Professionals
- Lone Workers
- Teachers / School Staff
It will provide staff with the skills necessary to break away from a potentially aggressive situation, where de-escalation techniques have failed and physical assault may be imminent.

Objectives
On completion of the course, participants will be able to: -
- Identify types of common assault
- Understand what factors would escalate to physical aggression + assault
- Use verbal de-escalation techniques effectively
- Understand the importance of non-verbal communication
- Undertake a Dynamic Risk Assessment
- Demonstrate a Practice Observation + review breakaway disengagements
- Understand the importance of documenting + reporting all incidents
Training Course Content
- Relevant legislation + legal frameworks
- Defining Reasonable Force
- Causes + build-up of an attack
- Warning + danger signs
- Challenging behaviour
- Trigger identification
- Situational awareness
- Defensive body positioning + personal space
- Verbal de-escalation + communication skills
- Actions to avoid being restrained or attacked
- Safely disengage from wrist grabs, body grabs, hair / clothing grabs + strangulation
- Avoid + defend kicks / punches
- Post incident actions
- Record keeping + de-briefing
