Directional, Horizontal and Multilateral Drilling

Directional, Horizontal and Multilateral Drilling - Training Course with HOT EngineeringDirectional, Horizontal and Multilateral Drilling - A 5-Day Intermediate Training Course for Oil & Gas Professionals

This comprehensive training course builds a firm foundation in the principles and practices of directional drilling, calculations, and planning for directional and horizontal wells. Technical issues associated with directional and horizontal drilling such as torque, drag, hole cleaning, logging and drill string component design are included.

The course offers a strong overview of rotary steerable tools and their application. Finally, exercises are used to deepen the understanding and allow a better hands-on participation.

Delegates will receive instruction on planning and evaluating deviated and horizontal wells and learn how to perform simple calculations associated to well survey.

Participants will receive instruction on planning and evaluating deviated and horizontal wells and learn how to perform simple calculations associated with well survey. The basic applications and techniques for multi-lateral wells are also covered in the course.

A strong focus will be on the tools and techniques used in directional drilling such as survey instruments, bottomhole assemblies, motors, steerable motors and steerable rotary systems.

As an independent course, it offers the most complete overview of geo-steering tools.

Suitability - Who should attend?

The Directional, Horizontal and Multilateral Drilling course is suitable for drilling, production or operations engineers, field supervisors, toolpushers, managers and technical support personnel.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

By the end of the course you will feel confident to:

  • Make survey calculations
  • Interpret TVD, polar and rectangular coordinates and vertical section
  • Interpret dogleg severity and the problems associated with dogleg severity
  • Plan a two-dimensional directional well
  • Plan horizontal wells based on the objectives of the well
  • Determine the best multi-lateral completion for an application
  • Determine declination and non-magnetic drilling collar selection
  • Apply the best survey instrument for the job
  • Directionally drill with rotary BHAs, jetting, whipstocks, motor, steerable motors and rotary steerable systems
  • Understand the principles of various rotary steerable systems and their selection
  • Interpret torque and drag and determine what factors will affect them
  • Determine cementing requirements for directional wells
  • Predict wellbore path based on historical data and determine the requirements to hit the target
