Course description

Electrical Safety Management

Electrical safety in organisations is often the responsibility of non-electrically qualified staff, such as facilities managers, risk managers or health & safety officers who have not had systematic training in how to prevent electrical hazards in the workplace. This situation results in a number of deaths in the workplace being caused by electrical incidents.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of electrical safety and a systematic set of principles for assessing and managing electrical safety in any business and across all sectors of industry and the public sector: the subject is universally applicable, across industries and countries. The course is applicable to the buildings, facilities, equipment and environments associated with a wide range of organisations, irrespective of size, which includes the industrial, commercial and the public sectors.

The course provides practical guidance to enable individuals and their organisations to have a level of knowledge and understanding to manage the risks associated with an electrical system. It will focus on providing a specific procedure for managing electrical safety.

Suitability - Who should attend?

The course will benefit a range of job functions that need to manage the safety of an electrical system. This includes those responsible for ensuring there is an appropriate electrical safety policy and associated procedures, those responsible for ensuring that the procedures are implemented, those responsible for the management of specific electrical tasks and those responsible for the safe condition of equipment and machinery.

The course will also be benefit to those individuals that need or wish to improve their knowledge of the types of activities that need to be followed to manage electrical safety.

The course is also applicable to a range of individuals that may not be from a traditional electrically trained background or experienced in managing electrical systems. As such they are not likely to have the specific knowledge associated with electrical safety as part of their core competency (e.g. Operations or Engineering Manager, Building or Facilities Manager, Project or Production Engineer).

Job titles: Electrical Engineer, Head of Technical Operations, Instrument & Electrical Superintendent, M&E Manager, Managing Director, Operations Engineer, Regional H & S Manager, Responsible Engineer E & I, Senior Authorised Person Electrical, Senior Health & Safety, Consultant, Technical Assurance Manager.

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Understand practical guidance in the form of a self-assessment in order to follow a systematic approach to understand the management of various aspects of an electrical system for your organisation.
  • Be able to create and implement an effective electrical safety management system where nothing is currently in place or to enhance an existing system.
  • Understand policy, procedure and people aspects of the electrical system.
  • Understand how to audit your building’s risk.
  • Be confident in your own expertise to actively reduce the risk of workplace accidents.
  • Have aquired expertise in the application of the Code of Practice for Electrical Safety Management and its self-assessment tool.
