Art History - Dutch Realism: Dutch Realism , Artists in Seventeenth century Holland developed art to meet the cultural and trading demands of the merchants. Creating small scale works they imbued their paintings with symbolic meanings relevant to the people of the era. Their subjects were mainly secular and covered all aspects of art genres including landscapes, still lifes, everyday scenes and a few portraits. The focus will be on artists such as Jan Vermeer, Frans Hals, Harmen Steenwijck, Jan Steen, Albert Cuyp, Jacob van Ruisdael, Clara Peeters and Judith Leyser. In addition, there will be the opportunity to explore the great Dutch master Rembrandt.,
