We will consider such questions as: what was the reality of daily life in England during the lives of these writers? What were the social influences on their writing? How was life represented in their works? And how far can their works be treated as historical evidence?, , By the end of this course, you should be able to:, ò Identify a number of English writers of the 1800s and place their lives within the wider context of British history, ò Describe something of the society of which each of these writers was a product, ò Discuss and assess the value of literary fiction as historical evidence,
