History - The European Union Today: Tonbridge, , This course on the European Union today will describe and analyse the institutions and processes within the European framework which goes beyond the European Union. In this course, participants will be looking and analysing different institutions like the European Union, the European Council, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) or the European Court of Justice., Furthermore, this course will look into different membership of the European Union (full membership as well as different membership forms of Norway, Canada, Albany and Switzerland/Lichtenstein). It will analyse the thinking behind the European Union and a different understanding of this Union. It will look at a political vs. an economic union or û in other words û a lose union of member states vs. a fuller integrated union giving up more and more sovereignty., Each meeting will be split into two parts. The first half of the meeting will be a student-led discussion in which a student or a group of students will lead on a topic for which he/she/them will gi, , By the end of the course, students will be able to, - report events of different European states on a timeline rather than on the development in each single state , - describe the social, economic and political changes in European history rather than on single states and societies., , It will be based on student participation where students will prepare discussions for the first half of each meeting, introducing changes and occurrencies in different parts of Europe and their similarities and differences. They will be provided with essential texts in advance. The second part of the meeting will be based on an in-depth analysis or new topics introduced., This course is meant for students who are interested in a wider understanding of European history rather than an understanding in a more insular view of single developments. , , , , , This course will suit anyone interested in the history of London or the Tudor period.
