Course description

Spanish Advanced - Conversation - Summer School: Do you want to speak Spanish like the natives and improve your fluency? Then this Spanish advanced - Conversation course in Canterbury is for you., The aim is to give students the opportunity to consolidate their knowledge of the language and culture through enjoyable and interesting interaction. A range of different topics will be introduced from everyday life and daily news using articles from TV, radio, Internet and newspapers covering topics such as: education, environment, transport, science and technology, art, politics etc. Suggestions and ideas will be discussed at the beginning of the course. Students will develop their communicative skills in the language to reach a near native degree of fluency and accuracy in pronunciation/intonation, choice of vocabulary, grammar as well as idiomatic/colloquial expressions. , By the end of the course students will be able to: - exchange views confidently on a range of topical subjects. - take part in a discussion with native speakers with a near native command of the language. - use language appropriate to the situation and subject. - obtain detailed information, ideas and opinions from a variety of sources You will gain a more in-depth socio-cultural knowledge of the country where the language is spoken., You will be given small amounts of homework each week (max 1hr) to reinforce classroom learning., , There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.

Suitability - Who should attend?

To join this course students should already be able to: - seek and respond to ideas, opinions and information on a wide range of topics, using a variety of language structures - understand with great ease newspaper/magazine articles, conversations etc. - use some colloquial expressions and appropriate language register. - use the subjunctive mood, passive voice and direct/indirect speech - have some degree of fluency and accuracy in pronunciation/intonation, choice of vocabulary and grammar. Please note this course involves some reading and note taking. Students may be able to join the course after it has started if they have appropriate knowledge. The Programme Manager will be able to advise., For those who have either studied the language for approximately 300 hours, or have completed Year 5 or have studied at AS or A level. , If you are unsure please carry out our self-assessment test available on or speak to a Curriculum Leader., ,
