APM Project Fundamentals Qualification

The APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) (SCQF Level 6) (formerly known as the APM Introductory Certificate). This qualification is awarded by the Association for Project Management, (APM) the chartered body for the project profession. The course is for people who want skills in project management that could be applied in business or other environments. It is for those wishing to gain a broad understanding of the principles of the profession. It has been developed with materials that are of particular use and relevance to people who work or are involved in the community and voluntary sector although the knowledge gained is applicable to any sector. Final assessment is by a short multiple choice online exam. The course syllabus details are available on the APM website. Students may wish to take the Project Management Starter course detailed above, prior to the PFQ. To complement it they may also wish to enrol on a project management software course, MS Project.

Suitability - Who should attend?

This online course is for people who wish to take the first step in learning Project Management. It gives an understanding of the basic philosophy of Project Management and offers an internationally recognised qualification. Students may wish to take the short Project Management Starter course as a preliminary to this course and the Introduction to MS Project computing course afterwards. The content and delivery of this course at the Mary Ward Centre is aimed at people working in Civil Society Organisations but the knowledge and skills gained are transferable.

Training Course Content

Course covers the learning objectives detailed in the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification Syllabus that is available on the APM website. Assessment covers the principles of Project Management including: Planning and Scheduling, Communications, Quality Management, Teamwork, Resource Management, Risk Management, Handover and Closeout, Understand the Language of Project Management., How a Successful Project is Built, How to be an Effective Member of a Project Management Team.

Course delivery details

The course will be run via Zoom, please make sure you have installed in in advance of your first class. Classes will involve some self study and information being sent to you via email or Moodle.

Membership of the Association for Project Management. Microsoft Project course at the Mary Ward Centre and progress to the next level of Project Management by taking the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) formerly known as APMP qualification at UCL Business Centre.
