Intro To Screenwriting

If you have always wanted to create something extraordinary, set a story with your own words and your own point of view, but never knew exactly how to then this is the course for you. In this course you will be introduced to the art of screenwriting; from creating characters, setting scenes, plot building and twists to characteristics of screenplay format and finally what makes a good screenplay good.

Suitability - Who should attend?

This course is for everyone interested in the art of screenwriting and want to know the tricks to successful screenwriting. The course will also benefit those who are interested in writing film reviews as they will get an insight into the work of a screenwriter. The course is appropriate for all learners and no prior knowledge of screenwriting is necessary. However, it is desired for the students to have a good command of English. Any additional knowledge of spoken language such as slang, dialects etc is beneficial, but not obligatory. The course will equip the students with all relevant knowledge and skills important for putting their art into the world. The course will encourage friendly, creative and mutually supportive energy.

By the end of the course, students will have be introduced to:

  1. Key points of successful screenwriting
  2. how to build a good character
  3. how to differentiate between a plot and a twist a
  4. what is a scene

Training Course Content

The course will be a mix of interactive PowerPoint lecturing, incorporating short video extracts and other visual material as well as samples of work. Teaching methods will include visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts will be provided though students are advised to bring a pen and paper with them. The learning methods will involve a range of student activities. These will include brainstorming, writing and reading own samples, group work, writing own short screenplay and discussing it as well as reflecting on presented sources and analysing provided material.The course is practical and project-based. The students will be assessed through completion of their practical work; e.g. project work in a form of short screenplay.

  • Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions
  • Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, Reading handouts and following instructions. One-to-one and group discussion.
