If you are looking to gain or renew an Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) card, you will need to either complete a Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment or hold a 'Valid Exemption' - meaning you hold a qualification that meets or exceeds the required level of health and safety knowledge.
Our IOSH Working Safely awareness course with invigilated exam is an approved Valid
Exemption and will allow successful candidates to complete their ECS-card applications quickly and more efficiently than using alternative routes.
The IOSH Working Safely online awareness course and exam has been designed to give
electricians, electrical trainees, electrician's mates, electrical improvers and anyone needing to access construction sites in an electrical capacity a streamlined, cost-effective and direct approach to gaining their ECS Health and Safety 'Valid Exemption.
If you are in the electrical industry or starting a new career as an electrician, you may have either heard about or been told about an ECS card. The Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) use cards to verify the competency of electrical workers. The type of card you apply for will depend on the qualifications and experience you have.
If you are planning on starting work in the electrical industry, or are looking to renew an ECS card, you will need an approved Health and Safety qualification to complete the application process.

At this stage, you will need to show you hold the appropriate qualifications for the card you are applying for - this will include your IOSH Working Safely certificate. These are uploaded as scans. Complete the application process and pay the appropriate fee, this is around £22. There is currently a two to three-week processing timescale for ECS-card applications.
