BA (Hons) Music (Performance or Production) (Top Up)

This exciting new BA (Hons) degree course is a one year programme designed to enable those with an HND, Foundation Degree or DipHE qualification to convert to a full degree in either Music Performance or Production. The course will incorporate a range of units including thought-provoking exploration into musical philosophy and research, expansion of your creative ideas in sound art or technological performance and advanced technical work in your chosen discipline. You will gain experience in collaborative work with college projects such as the new Morley Radio station, Morley College's TERM Records or with external partners. Most importantly you will determine the nature of your major research and creative projects, allowing you to shape your course and the direction of your future career whilst mentored by a team of expert tutors. You will also benefit from the rich and vibrant music culture that Morley College has, stemming from over 110 years of music education that began with Holst, through the opportunity to play in our ensembles, make use of our fantastic facilities and broaden your horizons with short courses, production visits and industry seminars.

What will you learn

A variety of learning and teaching methods will be employed in the delivery of the programme. The nature of this course requires there to be a slant towards specialist one-to-one teaching and supervision, especially where dissertation or extended personal project work is involved; this facilitates personal development and self-directed learning. Creative elements will be taught through small group practical instruction in our specialist facilities and then developed through group performance or technical activities and workshops. Cultural theory will be taught through lecture, discussion and seminar to encourage discussion and extend understanding. Your learning will be enhanced by our online virtual learning environment, to support you both in class and at home. Master classes, visits and workshops by visiting industry professionals will underpin the advanced skills and knowledge gained in other sessions.
