A journey through opera's Golden Age, the 19th century: the 'belcanto' school of music, the French Grand Opera, the legacies of Verdi and Wagner, the Verismo movement and the operatic map across 19th century Europe.

What will you learn

Classes will be taught by demonstrations and informal presentations by the tutor, using slide-shows, audio and video recordings, a piano and handouts. There will be group and class discussions, and students may be asked to prepare by listening to or reading about a particular opera or opera composer for the following class.

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment
