Mobile Journalism Today

Phones and tablets are reaching out to worldwide audiences at the touch of a button - and inviting people to interact.

On this course, you’ll learn how to use current mobile technology to create work that is distributed instantaneously and have a lifespan longer than print or TV.

This course is ideal if you are a keen writer who would like to develop your skills to publish online.

On this course, you will:

  • undertake journalism projects that reflect a theme of your choosing
  • get your work online for everyone to see
  • creating stories that are not just impactful but also show editorial control and reflect balance, fairness and quality
  • work in the newsroom as well as develop stories on location
  • learn how to find, evaluate and manage information
  • combine text and images in cohesive, eye-catching ways
  • create reports to add to your portfolio.

What will I gain?

By the end of the course you will have a good understanding of mobile journalism techniques, a basic understanding of the different writing styles for different applications and will have studied online layouts and formats.

You will have also gained an understanding of the journalism industry and be able to plan, design and execute research.

Where you'll learn: You will be studying in the Centre for Broadcasting and Journalism, part of the School of Arts and Humanities on the City Campus.

You will find modern teaching spaces and group study environments to develop your ideas and skills as a journalist.

You’ll also have access to our library to use outside of your short course; whilst you can’t reserve or take away books, you are welcome to use them as a resource for research and referencing.
