This is an excellent first course should you wish to develop and broaden your knowledge of horticulture and conservation in the future for career or employment purposes. It provides you all you need to know about the development of the organic movement; explains the basic principles of organic gardening; shows you the ways to look after and feed the soil without the use of artificial fertilisers, pesticides or chemicals. It will help support local wildlife and offer practical suggestions on how you can make attractive natural habitats. It will also help you make the right choices when shopping for plants and seeds, pots.
Course content will be as follows: Week 1 - know the basic principles and methods of organic gardening; Week 2 - learn ways to improve soil fertility; Week 3 - make your own compost; Week 4 - deal with weeds, pests and disease; Week 5 - choose suitable fruit, vegetables and herbs and Week 6 - learn more about environmental conservation. On completion, you will receive Certificate of attendance – Introduction to Organic Gardening.
There are no entry pre-requisites to enrolment on this course, except an interest in gardening in an organic, natural and environmentally friendly way, working with and alongside nature.
