Course description

Access to Higher Education Diploma (Education)

If you want to study an education related subject at undergraduate level, but you are not sure which area you would like to work in, this could be the ideal course for you. Offering a balance of educational practice, theory and childhood studies, this is the perfect programme for those who want to gain a valuable insight into the world of education.

Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to have A-levels to get into university. If you do not have traditional qualifications, an Access to HE Diploma is an alternative route. The diploma is widely accepted by UK universities and promises to prepare you for the demands of higher education. Furthermore, it has been specially crafted to suit the needs of those who have been out of education for some time.

As a distance learning course, this qualification offers you freedom with your studies. First of all, you are not required to wait until September to get started. You can start straight away or begin studying at a time that suits you the most. Secondly, you are not required to attend classes.

How long it takes you to complete your Access to HE Diploma really depends upon how much time you are able to dedicate to your studies. The Access to HE Diploma is designed to give you the flexibility to study at times that are suitable for you, and to fit your studies around your other commitments. The maximum time you have to complete your Diploma is outlined in your Individual Learning Plan (ILP). The minimum time you can complete your course is six months, on average learners complete their course within 8 to 9 months (the maximum time allowed to complete your diploma is 2 years).

What happens after the Access to HE Diploma?

On completion of your Access to HE Diploma, you should feel confident and prepared to apply for a position at the university of your choice. Most students who study towards this diploma choose to study in an education related field.

Once you have your undergraduate degree under your belt, there is nothing to stop you pursuing a career in any number of areas. Many students go on to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) by studying towards and undergraduate degree or a PGCE, but just because you study education, it doesn’t mean you need to be a teacher. After graduation you will be able to choose from an exciting range of career opportunities. These could include but are not limited to:
