Course description

Calligraphy - Beginners Taster Day

Calligraphy - Beginners Taster Day [HDF6100G]: Overview

This taster day is designed for anyone wishing to try their hand at Calligraphy. The aim of the workshop is to provide you with a ‘taste’ of what would be covered during a longer course and to familiarise you with various calligraphic hands and their origins/history.

What will we cover?

We will look at the Italic hand using a broad-edged dip pen. Colour techniques and layout will also be looked at.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?

Beginners would be best suited to this taster day or learners wishing to refresh their skills after a time away from the art. Those with some experience should bring along some text/project they would like to work on during the day.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?

A materials list will be supplied before the workshop so that you can purchase the correct equipment to bring on the day. There will be a 30 minute lunch break when you can visit the cafe to purchase food and drink or bring your own lunch.

What can I do when I finish the course?

You will have the opportunity to join a longer running Calligraphy class to improve your skills and learn new calligraphic hands.

Additional information

Calligraphy can be a messy affair so old clothes would be best on the day.

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class. Surrey Adult Learning values and supports equality and diversity by promoting fairness and respect at all times.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

No qualification awarded.
