Course description

Cookery - For 1

This course aims to develop basic skills and techniques used in the kitchen whilst preparing a range of dishes, for one person (or maybe two!).

What will we cover?
It can be hard to cook for one, when all the recipe books and TV shows assume you are feeding a whole family. This course will draw inspiration from a variety of tasty recipes for starters, main courses, sides and desserts, in smaller quantities, suitable for enjoying solo.

Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is suitable for all abilities, but particularly for beginners, those who lack confidence in their cooking abilities and those who are fed up with buying microwave meals for one in supermarkets!

This course is suitable for vegetarians. Although some of the planned recipes will include meat, the tutor will always be able to suggest alternative ingredients.

As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.

What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
Recipes/ingredients list will be sent 1 week prior to the start of the first class.
Please bring an apron, tea-towels and all ingredients as listed in the recipes sent to you, also some suitable containers to take food home in.
Please bring a pen and your reading glasses if you use them.
It is important to wear clothes and footwear suitable for a busy, hot kitchen.

What can I do when I finish the course?
Following this course you may wish to progress on to other cookery courses offered at the Centre, all enjoyable, informative and creative. We have a range of cookery and baking courses, so take a look at the brochure or online to see what else is available.

Additional information
N.B. Please do let us know if you have an allergy or food intolerance when you enrol on any one of our cookery courses. This information is important and will ensure the tutor can plan alternative ingredients or recipes where necessary

We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. When you enrol please let us know if you would like to discuss your extra support needs with a member of the Supported Learning Team who will then contact you as soon as possible. If you are enrolling within 10 days of the course start date, we may not be able to contact you before your first class.
